Cantorae at the Shrine in Spring 2014

Tomorrow evening at 6 p.m., Cantorae St. Augustine will launch its spring series of Choral Vespers at the Shrine of La Leche.  We hope that all who can will join us for this first evening, as well as taking note of the dates for the months ahead.  Always on a Friday and always starting at 6 p.m., here’s the rest of the schedule:

  • February 14th (Why not bring your Valentine?)
  • March 21st
  • April 25th
  • May 23rd
  • June 13th

Again, all are invited for these vespers that combine Latin and English to provide a time for prayer and reflection in the oldest Marian shrine in what later became the United States of America.

Wednesday Music – El Cantico del Alba

I did this YouTube a year or so ago from a concert Cantorae St. Augustine sang at the Cathedral-Basilica in St. Augustine.  We rehearsed it again last evening and I was reminded of what a lovely song it is.  Dating from the late 18th/early 19th century in California, it began the day on the ranchos and missions of Alta California.

Closing out the year with Cantorae St. Augustine

December 9th will be our last Vespers at the Shrine of La Leche in 2011.  But never fear, we’ll be back on January 19th!

Falling on the memorial of St. Juan Diego and the day after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, we will have special prelude and postlude music that reflects the season. Do join us at 6 p.m. for the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This has been a wonderful year for Cantorae. Both our May concert at the Cathedral-Basilica and our November concert at St. Benedict the Moor were well-received. Our singing at Founders’ Day in September was likened to “the voices of angels.” And we will have sung nine Friday Vespers at the Shrine of La Leche.

As soon as time permits, there will be some clips from the November concert, “From France to St. Augustine.” So check back in a bit.

We wish all of you a Blessed Christmas and a Joyous New Year.

And we look forward to bringing you more music in 2012.
