Take Five – Dave Brubeck

Compare to "Sing of the Lord's Goodness."  I know that there are only 12 tones in the Western scale, etc., but I find the resemblance unneverving.  Especially because this was really a favorite of my modern dance teacher in the late 60's.  Still like Dave's non-liturgical original.

About Mary Jane Ballou

Mary Jane Ballou’s life in sacred music began in a children’s choir at the age of three. Instrumental music waited until her piano lessons started in primary school. And her music life remains a joyous pairing of sacred vocal music and the instrumental repertoire of Spain, Ireland, and Scotland.

I’ve heard a tale that Brubeck, a Catholic, approved of the borrowing in “Sing of the Lord’s Goodness”. If that’s true, that only leaves about five reasons not to sing it. :-)
